James Anderson overwhelmed by a commendable first day - Bettor

James Anderson overwhelmed by a commendable first day ? Cricket News Update

Winning the toss on the first day of the third Test against England was the only highlight of the day for hosts India, as after the first wicket partnership between Gautam Gambhir and V Sehwag that yielded 47 runs, things looked bleak for them as they were effectively countered by an outstanding display of swing bowling from English pacer James Anderson

India, who are known for their batting might, especially at home, were caught in a spot of bother as they had no answer to the fierce swing bowling they were up against.

Even the likes of batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar could not handle the belligerent English pace attack, as he lost his wicket to Anderson after scoring a struggling 76-run knock.

V Kohli, with whom many hold great expectations, was also clueless today, as he could score only six runs before succumbing against Anderson. The bowler then went on to take out Ravichandran Ashwin towards the end of the day.

"I felt like it was a pretty good wicket to bowl on, quite easy-paced for the batsmen, I think, but if you bent your back you got a bit out of it. It reverse-swung a little bit for us as well, but the the guys that have got on it - the batsmen that have got in on it - have played pretty well," said Anderson.

After grabbing seven wickets, England are in a dominating position and would aim to end the Indian innings first thing in the morning to give their batsmen a chance to light up the ground by posting an intimidating first innings score.

However, Anderson refrained from making any predictions about the coming four days of play. ?We'll wait and see. It's hard to judge a pitch on one day. You've obviously got to wait and see what happens over the next couple of days. Like I say, I think it's a decent pitch and we'll be looking to try and bowl them out early on and make some runs in our first innings," he said.

Meanwhile, Gautam Gambhir is counting on his pacers to deliver once they come out to field.
